Propagation
Tradescantia is one of the easiest types of plants to propagate and spread the love to others! Practicing propagation is also an easy and effective way to “refresh and rejuvenate” your Tradescantia when it begins to show its age.
There are a few ways to propagate Tradescantia pants.
Cut & Put Into Soil
You may simply pinch or cut a branch or a few branches and submerge the cuttings in fresh soil. With regular watering, you’ll begin to see new growth in roughly 1-2 weeks.
Cut & Put Into Water (Hydroponic Growing Method)
We recommend rooting your cuttings in water hydroponically. You can simply put the newly cut stem in a Mason Jar of water and your plant should begin to form new root growth in 1-2 weeks. We recommend changing the water every week and make sure that you are using distilled water if you are connected to city water. We like to add Clear Res to our water every other week and we’ve found that the best method is to put your cuttings in a hydroponic 5 gallon bucket system, or a fish tank with a bubbler.
Another option for propagation is to lay a longer stem of an inch plant across the soil, and it will root where the nodes touch the soil.
